Cool Shit on Archive.org

Friday, July 25, 2008

So I found this wicked site just now that I had never seen or heard of before, which is silly. It's the site for the Internet Archive, which is just a massive collection of open source media.

They have a live internet archive, which is basically a listing of artists and free legal bootlegs of their performances. And it's not all just a bunch of weird bands and musicians I've never heard of... but there are countless of those too. Check it out here, and it's also listed in the side bar of sites demonstrating free music.

Anyways, here's a small list of some of the names I recognize as I go over it the first time:

Hole- Live Through This

Thursday, July 24, 2008

So this was Hole's first major label release. I think... actually I'm not sure on my history at this moment. But anyways, it was released just days following Kurt Cobain's death, and thus it has become quite notorious. It's considered their best album, and with good reason- it rocks balls. People say thats because Kurt probably wrote all the songs, which I don't believe. I mean, pre-tit job Courtney was bad ass. Watch Sid and Nancy, she plays Nancy's best friend, and a member of Sid's band post Sex Pistols. Haven't seen the movie in a few years, or that would have more details to it. Anyways, download link below, or the actual title of this blog.

The Tragically Hip- Yer Favourites

This is a requested The Tragically Hip double album. I do believe it is a collection of well known hits, singles, and maybe/probably fan favourites. I don't listen to this album, but this is what this blog is about. London is away at gay camp until Monday morning, so totally request stuff from him, but don't expect it for a few days! Also I bolded the albums on London's blog, and mine, which have been requested, so save us time and don't request them again if you see they are bolded. There isn't any point. We'll get to it eventually. Request what hasn't been requested yet.

The Dark Knight – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (2008)

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Summary/review:
If you've seen The Dark Knight in theatres, (which you should, multiple times,) you'll know that it's two and a half solid hours of epic insane win. Which Hollywood veterans Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard have done an amazing job of scoring. I'm in love with the Joker's theme, (the opening track “Why So Serious?”) which plays off the same two notes for 9 minutes straight, altering them to sound like knives and other such scary stuff, forecasting the Joker's arrival. The track wouldn't sound out of place on a Nine Inch Nails record. Other than that, the score is just incredible, very progressive, although some of the later tracks slip into a more conventional sound of film soundtracks, a la Batman Begins.

Welcome! Now here's the plan...

I have made this blog for one simple purpose:

Sharing music amongst friends.

Sometimes, we want an album and are simply unable to find it. Or, we are torrentarded. Or we figure why go through the hassle when our friends can send it. Some of us just trust compadres better than the internet. So.

What I'm saying is this:

  • I want 1-9 more people to work on this blog with me.
  • Sign up at Blogger. Create a profile.
  • Tell me your URL on this or through something else, and I'll add you to the blog, and you can post whenever you feel like it.
  • Try to upload at least one file per week.
If I accept you into my super blog of d00m, do the following:
  • Sign up with SendSpace. Or Megaupload.
  • Copy song files from into a .zip file and upload to SendSpace and/or Megaupload. Clearly label the .zip file with the name of the artist and the album.
  • Create an entry in this blog, linking the download link at the end. I'm going to throw a blog up right after this showing what I need done.
Pleasepleaseplease! Only upload mp3 files or unprotected itunes files. It can turn into a mega pain in the ass for people if you upload strange file types. Another thing, free SendSpace only keeps the file link until a week after the last download. Megaupload keeps the files indefinitely, but if you go through Sendspace, every download your file recieves gets a point. So to keep word of these files up, import this blog into your Facebook notes, which is in Note Settings on the right hand side directly under "Recently Tagged Friends." That way your friends can see all the free music that's up.

Oh, and always tag an entry with the artist's name and the album name as separate tags, so it's easier for people to navigate. And make sure that you start each word with a capital letter.

Cheers!
