Gossip - Standing In The Way Of Control

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

So here's the first album in a series of requests, a request I was all too pleased to fill! Hello, Gossip! They're a three piece indie rock band from the states, fronted by a large hairy lesbian with a beyond beautiful voice. Beth Ditto has some serious southern soul, something the British were smart enough to pick up on, making them much more popular in the UK than here. You should download this immediately. :D

An Horse - Rearrange Beds

I discovered this band recently when they opened up for Tegan and Sara. They're a cute Australian two piece indie band, which Sara Quin refers to as "her favourite band". They're delightful and polite, while singing songs like "Scared As Fuck". Excellent!

Tegan and Sara - Sainthood

Like the bad person that I am, I've barely listened to this album. :O Having said that, all the new songs sounded wonderful and amazing when I saw them about a week and a half ago. London also swears by it, saying it's better than The Con! And I love The Con. He said, as has Tegan and Sara, that it's significantly more upbeat than their previous album. In addition, three of the songs were written with Hunter Burgan, of AFI fame. Cool!

Demetri Martin - These Are Jokes

So goddamn funny. "Every fight is a food fight. When you're a cannibal." "A musical is a lot like a burlap sack. I would not want to be in either." "If I ever saw an amputee being hanged, I would just yell out letters." I feel I should mention that this is Apocalypse: Music's second comedy album upload ever. The first was Mitch Hedberg. If you have a sense of humour, download this. Download the Mitch Hedberg album too. :D

File Dump #10

Saturday, January 23, 2010

So this file dump definitely has a theme! That theme is Glee Defying Gravity, of course. I have here Chris Colfer and Lea Michele's solo versions of the song as well as their duet. I also threw in the original Wicked OBC version for good measure. This song is fantastic. What I like about Chris Colfer's solo version is that in it he hits that stupid note he didn't hit on the show. I was sooo sad when he lost the diva-off. ANYWAYS. Glee! And Wicked! Enjoy!

Kristin Chenoweth - Let Yourself Go

I love this album. Chenoweth is the current reigning queen of Broadway. And this album is just spectacular, as it is chock full of classic show tunes. There are a few originals, but at the end of the day If You Hadn't But You Did rules them all. Also Jason Alexander sings a duet with her, and thats hilarious, because he was on Seinfeld.

Cabaret: Original Soundtrack Recording

Everyone who knows me knows that I love Liza Minnelli more than I love cupcakes. And I love cupcakes. The reason for this lies pretty much entirely with Cabaret. This soundtrack is goddamn fantastic, and I don't even care that it's rather different than the stage version. So great in fact, that Mein Herr and Money, Money were added to the stage version of the play. Joel Grey is also utterly fantastic. If you don't recognize the name, he played the Wizard in the original cast of Wicked. Amongst many other roles. Did I mention that this is my favorite movie musical? It's that great. Worship, punk.

ATTENTION: Looking For Collaborators!!!

I don't know if you've noticed, but the majority of the posts this past year have been made by me and me alone, which means there are very few new uploads on here. And that means the quality of this blog suffers. So I need some help.

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:

1. 1 to 5 other people to join.

2. All types of musical tastes. If you have a large collection of country albums, gangsta rap, death metal, classical, j-rock, or Broadway musicals, that's super freaking awesome. Even more awesome than if you have a great collection of artists off Fueled By Ramen, although if you do, that's totally welcome too!

3. People who plan to post regularily.

IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN JOINING:

1. Email me a list of all the albums, eps, demos, etc. you physically have a copy of. If you're not one for physical formats, but have a sweet file collection, send a list of all the albums, eps, demos, etc. that you have, following these conditions:

  • They are of good quality sound.
  • The files are properly tagged, and when uploaded into a media player will show up as such.
  • .mp3 files are ideal. The occasional .m4a track or album is okay, but if your whole collection is made up of non-mp3's, then it's not very good for A:M.
  • An album needs to be the same file type and quality. If one song is 193kbps mp3, THEY ALL HAVE TO BE. Please, love of God, nothing horribly compiled off of Limewire. At least for this list.
If there are only 12 albums on this list, I'm not going to bother adding you to this group. The list you submit me will be your request list, and once you're added to the blog I'll need you to post it so that readers can fire some requests at you.

2. You will also need to sign up to Blogger. If you have an account already, send me your sign in email with the email of your album list so I can invite you to the blog. If you don't have an account, I will send you an invite to your email so that you can make an account with Blogger and start blogging on A:M.

3. Sign up an account at Mediafire or Megaupload. The pros of both are that the files basically stay uploaded indefinitely, unless there is a complaint about the content. The good thing about Mediafire is that readers can download as many files as they want from Mediafire simultaneously. The bad thing is that you can't upload files larger than 100mb. Megaupload, on the other hand, only allows one download at a time, but you can upload files much larger than 100mb. Joining SendSpace is another option, but if a file isn't downloaded for a week, the file is deleted. Therefore, if you choose to use SendSpace, it is ONLY good to use as a mirror link.

4. Be prepared to compress your album ONLY in .zip files. A:M doesn't post .rar files. We keep it easy for our readers.
